The Broiler closes abruptly, redevelopment of downtown can’t come soon enough

So the Broiler and its sister bar Gallagher’s closed on Tuesday, which for anybody that has walked by the restaurant on a random Friday night should know is not a surprise.  The simple announcement made on their website has not been addressed through the media, but perhaps some details can emerge over the next few weeks as to why exactly they decided to pull the plug.

After all, the planned downtown arena puts the restaurant in a prime location of K street that should see a huge bump in traffic and revenues.  Maybe they couldn’t hold on until then, or maybe the new money is flowing in and pushing the old, weathered money out the side door.

Either way, it’s going to be nice when Sacramento has the core of its downtown setup and businesses can begin to function as they do in most other mid-sized markets.
